Führungswechsel bei der Social-Networking-Plattform MySpace. Die Firmengründer Chris DeWolfe (gleichfalls CEO des Unternehmens) und sei Mitgründer Tom Anderson sind raus. Dies teilte Jonathan Miller, der neue Digital-Media-Chef der MySpace-Muttergesellschaft News Corp. mit. Miller, der neue starke Mann in der Internet-Abteilung von Rupert Murdochs Medienkonglomerat News Corporation war einst Chef des gescheiterten Web-Dinos America Online (AOL) – und gilt in der Branche als wenig populärer Erbenszähler. Inwiefern der Ausstieg der MySpace-Macher Chris DeWolfe und Tom Anderson zu tun hat ist bislang unklar. Als Nachfolger von DeWolf wird der ehemalige Facebook-Manager und derzeitige Chef von Project Playlist, Owen Van Natta gehandelt.
Gleichfalls könnte man auch sagen, dass die MySpace-Gründer zu einem für sie persönlich sehr guten Zeitpunkt aussteigen. Denn die Phase des ersten großen Hypes und der damit verbundenen Rekord-Wachstumsraten der Social-Networks neigt sich langsam aber sicher dem Ende zu. Und vor allem auch die Werbeeinnahmen sozialer Netzwerke wachsen in den Vereinigten Staaten bei weitem nicht mehr so wie noch 2008, wie beispielsweise auch die Marktforscher von Emarketer vorrechnen.
[UPDATE 24. April 18:35 Uhr] Owen Van Natta ist soeben als neuer MySpace-Chef bestätigt worden.
[UPDATE 2 26. April] Und: Van Natta hat einen mehr als zweifelhaften Ruf in der Branche – bei seinem letzten Engagement bei Project Playlist.com war der neu MySpace-CEO und einstige Facebook-Manager alles andere als erfolgreich. Sogar ganz im Gegenteil: Seit Van Natta dort im Okt 2008 zu Chef gekürt wurde, hat sich die Zahl der Zugriffe bei Project Playlist halbiert.

He has agreed to serve as a strategic advisor to the Company and will remain on the board of MySpace China.
