Paramount, Lionsgate, Warner Bros. und Sony setzen auf DivX – endlich

FilmFresh logoEs geschehen also doch noch Wunder. Jahrelang hatten die Hollywood-Studios das DivX-Film-Kompressionsformat verdammt und bekriegt. Und nun machen sie doch mit, die Entertainment-Riesen aus Kalifornien.

Dem amerikanischen Online-Laden FilmFresh.com ist es gelungen, die altehrwürdigen Studios Paramount, Lionsgate, Warner Bros. und Sony Pictures vom DivX-Codec zu überzeugen. Die Movie-Firmen werden künftig ihre Filme über das FilmFresh-Portal auch als Downloads im DivX-Format anbieten.

Vom Start weg sollen rund 600 Filme zum Herunterladen bereitstehen. Jeder Streifen soll mit 10 Dollar bis 16 Dollar zu Buche schlagen.

Schon Anfang des Monats hatten die Studios Paramount, Sony, Warner und Lionsgate erste Verhandlungen mit DivXVgeführt. Von DivX lizensierte Hardware verfügt über einen bestimmten Geräte-Code, der es erlaubt, DivX-Videos trotz Kopierschutz flexibel einsetzen sprich abspielen zu können.

Rundum ist das DivX-Foramt äußerst populär, da es sehr gute Kompressionseigenschaften hat. So ist ein typischer Spielfilm auf DVD etwa sechs bis acht Gigabyte groß während eine Kopie mit DivX-Videokompression nur noch 650MB bis 700 MB groß ist und sich entsprechend auf einer konventionellen CD speichern lässt.
